1. Go into the "Game Installer" folder,
   run L4D_Setup.exe (refer to the NFO-file for more info)

2. Run the "L4D Standalone Patch 1.17" which is included in the "Extras" folder
   and during installation make sure you get the game install path right (default: C:Program FilesLeft 4 Dead), then choose your player name for online play
   (can be changed later through editing rev.ini in your game install directory).
